About Us
Chloe Johnston (she/her), Co-Founder
Chloe Johnston is a Chicago-based community organizer and co-founder of Project Pathway. For over a decade, she's worked alongside nonprofits and community organizations to help turn listening into action — and Project Pathway is the most personal extension of that work yet.
Growing up, Chloe watched people she loved navigate housing uncertainty without enough information or support. That experience never left her, and it's what sits at the heart of everything Project Pathway is building. She believes renters deserve clarity, community, and someone genuinely in their corner.
When she's not working, you can find Chloe in her South Loop neighborhood with her dog Luna, or out at Promontory Point in Hyde Park — her favorite spot in the city.
Sydni Johnston (she/her), Co-Founder
Sydni Johnston is a finance professional and co-founder of Project Pathway. Her background in financial operations, data analysis, and strategy gives her a distinct lens on the housing crisis — one that's equal parts analytical and deeply human.
Numbers tell stories, and Sydni has spent her career learning how to read them. At Project Pathway, she brings that same rigor to understanding what renters are up against and making sure the resources they find here are not just well-meaning, but well-built.
A West Loop resident and champion of independently owned coffee shops, Sydni can usually be found exploring her neighborhood with her dog Charlie.
Why We Built This
Growing up, we watched people we loved face some of their hardest moments inside the walls of a home that wasn't fully theirs. Navigating landlords, leases, and systems that felt designed to confuse rather than protect. Nobody handed them a roadmap. Nobody told them what they were entitled to or who could help. They figured it out the hard way, and sometimes they didn't figure it out at all.
That stayed with us.
Renters in Chicago deserve better than scattered information, confusing legal language, and the feeling that they're on their own.
Project Pathway is the resource we wish existed. It's built from the experiences of our family and the stories of renters across this city, because we believe stories are how change starts.
When people see themselves reflected, when they realize they're not alone, something shifts. Communities organize. Neighbors speak up. Systems start to bend. We're here to gather those stories, connect people to real resources, and be part of something bigger than information.
A movement rooted in dignity, driven by community.
